TFL Mourns the Loss of Smoke-Free Advocate GG Shinn

Aug. 8, 2018

The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living (TFL) sends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of George Gershwin (GG) Shinn.

He was a master entertainer and vocalist, bar and business owner, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and to us a proud smoke-free supporter. His light and voice shined during our campaign in Alexandria, where he fearlessly made his own business smoke-free and advocated for smoke-free workplaces for all employees and musicians to enjoy. He was a critical part of making Alexandria the first city in Louisiana to adopt a comprehensive smoke-free ordinance to include all bars and gaming facilities in 2012.

We at TFL are so proud to have been able to work with him over the years, and so saddened by his passing as it further demonstrates that nothing about tobacco use or secondhand smoke exposure is worth the loss of anyone’s life.
