Fenton Supports Healthy Air For Everyone

May. 15, 2019

Fenton, La. – May 14, 2019 – Last night the Village of Fenton, Jefferson Davis Parish, voted in favor of protecting the health of Fenton residents and all employees by extending the state’s current smoke-free ordinance to all workplaces within Fenton. The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living (TFL) and members of the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Louisiana (CTFLA) applaud the people Fenton for their vote.

The smoke-free measure, voted on and passed on May 14, will ensure all residents and employees (including bartenders, gaming establishment employees and entertainers) will be protected from the dangerous health effects of secondhand smoke in their workplaces. When the ordinance goes into effect by July 1, Fenton will become the 25th municipality in the state of Louisiana to go smoke-free.

“We wanted to do something to protect our residents from exposure to second-hand smoke and provide a healthier environment for everyone,” said Mayor Eddie Alfred Jr.
“Fenton’s decision to go smoke-free shows that small towns can make a big difference in the lives of their residents by supporting healthier air for everyone,” said Janice Ackley, TFL Regional Manager.
