COMMUNITY CAPACITY & MOBILIZATION
TFL engages in grass roots community education and mobilization to raise public awareness about the health issues related to tobacco use, the strategies used by the tobacco industry to promote use, and the need to change social norms and public policy around tobacco use.
Community mobilization engages individuals and groups from government, regulatory agencies, voluntary associations, health-care institutions and special interest groups in coordinated efforts to bring together all community interests and resources to motivate communities for tobacco control.
TFL encourages individuals, groups, and organizations to take ownership of their community and unite to identify and solve the health, social, environmental and economic problems of tobacco use.
Community analysis, planning, and implementation of tobacco-control initiatives are important steps to community mobilization, made possible by regional coalitions, the Center for Community Capacity and TFL Regional Coordinators.
